Off Road

The lower speeds, lighter weight of the vehicle and uneven surface mean that whoever rides on a dirt track does not need the same braking power as someone who rides a motorcycle on asphalt. However, this does not mean that the braking system is less important in off-road riding than on the track or road.

On the contrary, external elements such as sand, grass and mud may interfere with the braking system which consequently needs components that are 100% reliable. Light weight and riding feel are essential and are qualities that the products in the Brembo UPGRADE Off-Road range all share.

MASTER CYLINDERS:

MODULARITY AND RESPONSIVENESS

The variety of terrain and weather conditions in off-road riding, even in the same session, affect the amount of braking which is related to the type of master cylinder used.

The AMC-MX master cylinder has been designed to give maximum performance under any weather conditions and on any terrain; to do this, the Brembo technicians have adjusted the free play of the master cylinder so that it responds immediately as soon as the lever is pressed.

The master cylinder has an anthracite black reservoir with a hard anodized finish to protect the master cylinder from dirt and mud; all this is embellished by the laser etched Brembo Racing logo on the reservoir which makes the product even more aesthetically appealing.

The AMC-MX master cylinder can be used both with the original calipers and Brembo UPGRADE calipers.

THE ALTERNATIVES

If, on the other hand, you want a significant improvement and a master cylinder that is capable of guaranteeing maximum responsiveness, linearity between the force applied and brake response and perfect adjustability of the braking even under extreme conditions, you can opt for the AMC-RD and AMC-EN master cylinders: the first is recommended for motocross racing and the second for enduro racing. SRM aluminum rear brake master cylinders with a built-in reservoir complete the range.

CALIPERS:

THE RIGHT POWER AND RELIABILITY

In track racing, the brake system is unlikely to encounter debris whereas in motocross and enduro racing, this is perfectly normal. The engineers took all this into account when they designed the Brembo UPGRADE calipers for off-road use.

A 24 mm (0.94 in.) diameter 2-piston floating caliper like the MX-2GPR on a CNC-machined aluminum alloy body with a hard anodized finish is more than enough to pull off great braking in off-road racing. The titanium pistons and bolts help to reduce the weight to a minimum.

They have been rotated towards the inside of the wheel to protect the pipe and bolt fastening bosses from impact. A special vent on the bridge, on the other hand, helps to dissipate heat by preventing mud from building up inside the caliper.

A floating caliper is a solution that allows you to continue to drive even if a brake disc is fractured since in similar cases, a fixed caliper would completely block the wheel because it would interfere with the disc, something that does not occur when using a floating caliper.

THE ALTERNATIVES

The MX-2GP caliper also has sintered pads as well as a CNC-machined aluminum alloy body and two 24 mm diameter pistons. For the rear, we recommend a MX-1GP caliper with a single 26 mm (1.02 in.) diameter aluminum piston and steel bolts.

DISCS:

RESISTANCE TO STRESS AND LIGHT WEIGHT

The need for lighter weight in motocross/enduro bikes and lower speeds also affects the characteristics of the discs used in off-road racing. On the other hand, the lack of straights normally found on asphalt tracks does not help the brakes to cool down between one braking event and the next on dirt tracks.

Based on experience gained in the MX1 World Championship, on the MX-terra disc, the stainless-steel band is connected to the bell which is CNC-machined from billet aluminum alloy using six fastener studs.

This solution guarantees the correct radial and axial float and consequently, residual torque, i.e., the residual torque between the pad and the disc is minimized when the lever is fully released.

The increased power and modularity, on the other hand, is guaranteed by the disc’s larger diameter, 267 mm (10.5 in.), a high value for off-road motorcycles even if it is only 3 mm (0.1 in.) thick because consumption of the friction material is much lower than track racing.

The assurance of an Original product

Brembo Check: a new Brembo App that certifies that UPGRADE products are original.

The counterfeiting of Brembo brake systems, as with many products made by the most iconic brands, is unfortunately something that is becoming more and more widespread. In this case, it is something that is potentially much more dangerous because it regards the performance of active safety systems which are vital to the safety of drivers, passengers and other road users.

Brembo has always guaranteed the safety and reliability of its own parts and has developed an app called Brembo Check which can be used simply and quickly to certify that its products are genuine ones.

With Brembo Check installed on your mobile device, all you have to do when you buy an UPGRADE product is use your smartphone to scan the unique QR Code on the label which can easily be seen on the purchased component or on the box, as in the SPORT range, to know if the Brembo product is original or not.

To prevent tampering, the label is made using a printing and application procedure which prevents it from being removed; if you try to remove it, you damage the QR Code making it unusable. In this way, the label cannot be detached and cannot be affixed to any other products other than the original one. .
