Anyone who is involved in Superbike racing knows that before seeking more power and torque, the braking system must provide maximum braking efficiency. The reason is obvious: even the best performing systems have significant margins of improvement thanks to the products in the Brembo UPGRADE | racing range.

This range is based on the experience gained by Brembo on tracks around the world, now synonymous with success as shown by the 32 riders’ world championship titles in 500-MotoGP and 29 riders’ World Superbike Championship titles won by bikes equipped with Brembo parts.

MASTER CYLINDERS:

RACING PERFORMANCE AND AN INCREDIBLE BRAKE FEEL

Track day enthusiasts know that the component that best conveys brake feel is the brake cylinder which can drastically improve how braking feels if replaced.

The top solution in the range is the RMCbilletGP, the master cylinder used in the most important motorcycle championships in the world. Machined from billet, it has been designed, developed and perfected by Brembo engineers to provide the very best in the most challenging of races.

When on the track, even gaining one tenth of a second when braking can be a considerable advantage over a whole lap and even more throughout a race. The RMCbilletGP guarantees maximum response and excellent linearity between the force applied by the rider to the lever and the braking system’s response.

In addition to the exceptional performance ensured in all operating conditions, this brake master cylinder stands out for its incredible feel which comes from the possibility of adjusting it which is essential if you want to meet all drivers’ needs.

If, on the other hand, you want a significant improvement without flying so high, you can consider the possibility of using another Brembo master cylinder from the revolutionary RCS cylinder in normal and corsacorta versions to the ultralight RRM and RRS rear master cylinders in aluminum.

If you want a rear master cylinder that adjusts acceleration when cornering, you can use the RMCthumb rear thumb master cylinder. An increasing number of MotoGP riders use it to avoid skidding when coming out of a turn. Why not do the same?

CALIPERS:

GRAND PRIX LEVEL POWER AND CONSISTENT PERFORMANCE

Form and substance: a Brembo UPGRADE caliper has distinctive stylish features and finishes that jump immediately to the eye and highlight the motorbike owner’s desire to stand out from the others.

The UPGRADE caliper combines the harmonious forms with unmatched braking power thanks to the rigidity guaranteed by the materials and the machining which also have an effect on consistency of performance, even when under stress.

The other Brembo 4-piston front calipers are also produced with the same care and attention: on the one hand, there is the GP4-RX consisting of two parts and pistons with the same diameter, on the other, the monobloc GP4-RS with cooling fins surrounding the pistons, GP4-MS and GP4-PR, all designed using a topological optimizer, software derived from 40 years of Brembo MotoGP World Championship wins.

The GP2-RR64 rear caliper with two 30 mm diameter pistons also made of titanium complements the range. Machined from billet, the caliper body is the result of careful calculations to optimize the rigidity and weight and control braking even in poor grip conditions.

DISCS:

RESISTANCE TO STRESS AND LIGHT WEIGHT

Brake discs are the element that sustains the most stress when braking and if they are replaced, this significantly improves the behavior of your bike, not only when braking but also during other phases of riding, especially during demanding track sessions. The Brembo UPGRADE discs do their best when under pressure just as they are between the racing curbs.

These discs are extremely light weight and are also very high performing thanks to the use of very high quality materials.

More material means more weight which is never a good idea when riding a motorcycle. For this reason, an increasing number of enthusiasts prefers discs with a low braking band. This trend is reflected by the name given to the latest addition to Brembo’s range, the “pistabassa”, a disc with a reduced height braking band which is therefore lighter than a product with a conventional braking band.

Like all the T-drive discs, the “pistabassa” also has a coupling between the braking band and the bell consisting of 8 T-shaped pins which replace the classic studs on floating discs. With this solution, radial and axial float is not hampered and consequently, the resistance to thermal-mechanical stress increases, especially under extreme conditions of use.

Heat dissipation is in actual fact higher than a fixed disc which due to its very nature is subject to side deformations caused by a variation in the brake lever stroke. The steel braking band and billet machined aluminum bell also guarantee reduced weight which makes for improved motorcycle rideability. The SuperSport and T-Drive discs, made up of steel braking bands and a billet machined aluminum bell, are examples of floating discs.

The SuperSport discs have a 34 mm braking band and are 5.5 mm thick which is more than the standard ones due to the use of 10 fastener studs.

The T-drive disc, on the other hand, features a method of coupling between the band and the bell of the same name, i.e. the 8 T-shaped pins mentioned above.

BRAKE PADS:

MAXIMUM FRICTION AND ZERO BRAKE FADE

Brake pads are the smallest solid component in the braking system and for this reason, many people think that they have a minimum impact.

In actual fact, as confirmed by anyone who has tried several, brake pads are one of the components in the brake system that are most subjected to stress and it is therefore vital to choose the right compound, especially for track use.

Z04 sintered pads are the most widely used Brembo pads in the World Superbike Championship: they consist of special compounds agglomerated through an adhesive-free sintering process.

They are real factory pads and are also available for the most popular street legal supersport bikes. Due to the compounds used, the friction coefficient is higher than 0.8 already at 50°C, and does not fall below this threshold until a temperature of 400°C is reached.

The lubricants added to the initial compound ensure consistent, smooth braking even when disc temperatures are high. This makes brake fade, i.e. the loss of braking efficiency, less likely. Abrasives also help to keep friction levels high by keeping the discs clean and removing deposits on the braking band.

The other two sintered pads derive from Brembo’s experience in the world of racing. The Z03 is a variant of the Z04 and is preferred by the best teams in the World Endurance Championship because of its reduced wear, easy running-in and extraordinary durability, ideal for 8, 12 and even 24-hour races.

The H38 pad, on the other hand, is used on the rear caliper and guarantees excellent performance at high ambient temperatures and in cold weather. This also has reduced wear and provides consistent performance until worn.

For track enthusiasts who use their bikes on both the track and road, Brembo has developed the new Z10, which is an entry-level compound compared with previous pads, has reduced costs and is available for the most popular supersport bikes.

WHEELS:

MAXIMUM RIGIDITY AND AGILITY

One of the most important presences in the Brembo group is the Marchesini brand, a leader in the research, design and development of wheels for motorcycles both for top world championships and road use.

Working together with Brembo on technological innovation, research into materials and manufacturing processes has resulted in iconic products which are sought after by thousands of enthusiasts because of their unique characteristics.

motorcyclist knows the importance of lightness and rigidity. The Marchesini brand is increasingly devoted to this combination of qualities and the most famous example of this is the M7R Genesi wheel made from a magnesium alloy which is used in aerospace applications.

The material used, multi-directional forging and use of optimized dies on the final wheel geometry result in an extremely light wheel: the reduction in weight compared with the original equipment ranges from 2.8 kg (6.2 lb) to 5.8 kg (12.7 lb), depending on the motorbike

model.

This is a big difference, amounting to 26-41%, which significantly increases acceleration, reduces braking distances and allows quicker turning into corners. All this is done without having to sacrifice anything in terms of safety, guaranteed by the strict controls and numerous tests carried out on each wheel.

At a lower cost, you can buy the M7RS Genesi wheel which features the iconic 7 spokes and uses aluminum instead of magnesium. Here too, the multi-directional forging and use of optimized dies guarantee a 16-33% reduction in weight.

The M10RS wheel is available for those who want forged magnesium but also a more traditional design. The use of 3 more spokes results in a slight increase in weight which remains however 25-40% below that of the OE wheels.

The assurance of an Original product

Brembo Check: a new Brembo App that certifies that UPGRADE products are original.

The counterfeiting of Brembo brake systems, as with many products made by the most iconic brands, is unfortunately something that is becoming more and more widespread. In this case, it is something that is potentially much more dangerous because it regards the performance of active safety systems which are vital to the safety of drivers, passengers and other road users.

Brembo has always guaranteed the safety and reliability of its own parts and has developed an app called Brembo Check which can be used simply and quickly to certify that its products are genuine ones.

With Brembo Check installed on your mobile device, all you have to do when you buy an UPGRADE product is use your smartphone to scan the unique QR Code on the label which can easily be seen on the purchased component or on the box, as in the OES range, to know if the Brembo product is original or not.

To prevent tampering, the label is made using a printing and application procedure which prevents it from being removed; if you try to remove it, you damage the QR Code making it unusable. In this way, the label cannot be detached and cannot be affixed to any other products other than the original one.
