Brembo Hits the Big Screen in F1® THE MOVIE with Brad Pitt

As an official partner of F1® The Movie, Brembo was selected to design and supply cutting-edge braking systems for the film’s race car.

That Brembo, active in the world of motorsport since 1975, supplies braking systems to the entire grid is well known.

But few are aware that Brembo also equips an eleventh team—one that races its Grands Prix not just on track, but especially on the silver screen.

We’re talking about APXGP, the fictional team at the heart of F1® The Movie, the highly anticipated summer event feature directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, and Javier Bardem.

The film features Brad Pitt as a former F1® driver making a comeback, paired with Damson Idris as his teammate at APXGP, a fictional squad on the starting grid.

Filmed during real Grand Prix weekends, Pitt and Idris’ team faces off against the true giants of the sport. The two race side by side, but amid the roar of the engines, Sonny’s troubled past resurfaces, and he soon realizes his teammate is a ruthless rival.

Brembo was chosen to design and supply the braking systems for the F1® car featured on the big screen. Filmed during several Grand Prix weekends throughout 2024, the movie blends real racing with cinematic storytelling.

Pitt and Idris experienced over 4G of deceleration on set—more than three times what most people feel in road cars—thanks to Brembo’s state-of-the-art brakes.

For five decades, many teams in motorsport have partnered with Brembo for precision braking systems that deliver peak performance, reliability, and safety”, said Mauro Piccoli, Chief Marketing Officer of Brembo. “Equipping the APXGP car in F1® The Movie was a unique challenge and a true honor.

No part of a vehicle demands more trust than the brakes—and the best trust Brembo: on the road, on the track, and now on the big screen.

Brembo’s involvement ensures that the film captures the full intensity and realism of motorsport. But beyond performance, the brand brings authenticity, rooted in the same passion and technical rigor it applies to every Grand Prix.

Brembo engineers tailored the braking system to the unique demands of the APXGP car, analyzing key factors such as weight distribution, tire grip, and aerodynamic balance—just as they do with real teams.

As the line between real racing and cinematic storytelling blurs, Brembo is there, delivering trust, technological innovation, and emotion. Whether in the heat of a Grand Prix or a high-octane film sequence, Brembo once again proves that brakes may not be the loudest part of a car—but they are the ones you trust the most.

The customization of Brembo’s braking system to meet the unique demands of the APXGP team is nothing new for Brembo, which already provides each team with tailor-made solutions engineered to reflect the specific needs of both car and driver.

Each team works closely with Brembo engineers to define the optimal balance between weight and stiffness in the design of their bespoke brake calipers, based on the vehicle's performance characteristics and setup requirements.

Brembo’s advanced design methodologies enable the development of fully customized caliper models that achieve the desired performance trade-offs. Some teams prioritize lightweight calipers, even at the expense of some rigidity, while others opt for stiffer components that carry additional mass.

It’s a delicate compromise that drives Brembo to engineer dedicated braking systems for every single car on the grid.
