The second and final round of the season in Italy for MotoGP after Mugello, which at the end of May hosted the Italian GP. The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli instead hosts the San Marino and Rimini Riviera GP.

Last year, with 174,821 attendees over the entire weekend, a new spectator record was set. In total, this circuit has hosted 32 GPs, but before the third millennium the races were run in an anticlockwise direction.

The GP data

According to Brembo engineers, who for the 11th consecutive year have been working closely with all MotoGP teams, the 4.226 km Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli falls into the category of circuits that are demanding on brakes. On a scale of 1 to 6, it has a difficulty index of 4, due to 11 braking sections lasting just under 28 seconds per lap: 5 are classified as High, 4 as Medium, and 2 as Light. In 7 braking sections, riders are subject to at least 1.3 g of deceleration.

The toughest corner

The toughest corner for the braking system at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli is Quercia, turn 8: MotoGP bikes go from 289 km/h to 80 km/h in 4.7 seconds, over a distance of 215 metres, thanks to the 5.7 kg load on the brake lever applied by the riders. Deceleration is 1.5 g, Brembo brake fluid pressure reaches 12.2 bar, and the temperature of the carbon discs rises to 710 °C.

Some are chasing their first, some their ninth

Since MotoGP returned to race at this track in 2007, 22 Grands Prix have been held here, all won by bikes equipped with Brembo brakes: Ducati and Yamaha have won 8 each, while Honda has taken the remaining 6. Aprilia, on the other hand, is still without a win and has only 2 podiums to its name: Maverick Viñales’ 3rd place in 2022 and Marco Bezzecchi’s 2nd place in 2025. KTM has no wins and only one podium, with Pol Espargaro finishing 3rd in 2020 at the Emilia Romagna and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix.

Italian quartet

The most satisfying edition of the San Marino and Rimini Riviera GP for home riders was the 2022 one because Mattia Casadei and Matteo Ferrari won the two MotoE races on Energica bikes, Dennis Foggia prevailed in Moto3 with Honda and Francesco Bagnaia triumphed in MotoGP with Ducati. The only exception was Moto2, won by Alonso Lopez, who was nevertheless riding the Italian Boscoscuro. Needless to say, they all benefited from Brembo brakes.

State-of-the-art calipers

At Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, the Superbike World Championship raced three months ago: lap times for production-derived bikes are more than 1.3 seconds slower than MotoGP, due to lower top speed and the use of steel discs. The Brembo brake calipers in the two categories are instead very similar because both are monobloc aluminium units with 4 pistons, cooling fins on the outer body, amplification system and anti-drag.
