The final round for Formula 1 before the almost month-long summer break. For the Hungaroring, it will be the 41st Grand Prix, a milestone that will match the Nurburgring at 7th place among the most-used tracks in the World Championship.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the first Grand Prix held in Hungary in 1986, as well as the first beyond the Iron Curtain: on that occasion, the spectators numbered two hundred thousand, coming from all over Eastern Europe.

According to the engineers of the Brembo group who work closely with all Formula 1 drivers, the Hungaroring, which is 4.381 meters long, falls into the category of circuits that are highly demanding on brakes. On a scale from 1 to 5, it has obtained a difficulty index of 4 because the brakes are used for 22 percent of the race: each lap, drivers use them in 8 corners, for a total of 16.7 seconds. Three braking points are classified as Hard, one as Medium, and four as Light.

The toughest corner
From the simulations carried out, the most challenging corner of the Hungaroring for the braking system is the first one after the finish line: the cars reach 332 km/h and drop to 99 km/h in 3.58 seconds, covering a distance of 172 meters. Drivers experience 4 g of deceleration and apply a load of 119 kg on the brake pedal. The braking power is 1,760 kW.
Half a G less
Compared to the Hungarian GP 2025, due to the characteristics of the 2026 single-seaters, braking is less intense. At turn 2 a year ago, cars lost 160 km/h in 2.59 seconds while covering 122 meters, whereas this year they are expected to lose 156 km/h in 2.85 seconds, advancing 143 meters in the process. The deceleration experienced by drivers will decrease from 4.2 g to 3.7 g, and the effort on the brake pedal will also be lower: from 144 kg to 110 kg.

The catch-up
Twenty-five years ago in Hungary, Michael Schumacher caught up with Alain Prost at the top of the list of Formula 1's most victorious drivers, with 51 wins: after securing pole position with an 8-tenths advantage, the German won the 2001 Hungarian GP with a 3-second margin. In addition to equaling the Frenchman's record, Schumacher also clinched his 2nd world title with Ferrari, the 4th in Formula 1, all using Brembo brakes, always favoring a pedal with a very short and responsive travel.
The overhaul
The summer break represents the most favorable window in the calendar for brake caliper overhauls at Brembo. Although teams regularly return during the season for scheduled maintenance activities, this period allows them to plan interventions without the tight deadlines imposed by the succession of Grand Prix events.
Each caliper is completely disassembled by specialized technicians, who replace all components subject to wear, such as sealing elements, before reassembly. At the end of the process, each caliper undergoes a rigorous cycle of quality checks: from dimensional inspections using three-dimensional measuring machines capable of detecting deviations as small as 0.02 mm, to functional tests, and finally to a thorough final inspection carried out by highly qualified personnel. Only after passing all the required checks is the component certified for reuse in Formula 1.
