Valentino Rossi makes a comeback in the Unofficial Best Starter ranking

10/16/2015

With his lightening quick departure at the Motegi track, the Yamaha rider rises to fourth position in the Unofficial Best Starter ranking

For the second time this year, Valentino Rossi managed to arrive at the first curve in the lead. At the Motegi track, departing from the second box, the Italian rider pulled up alongside Jorge Lorenzo, who departed in pole position, and passed him at the start of the first turn. Dani Pedrosa came up immediately behind them despite starting from the second row.

With this start Valentino Rossi was able to recover two positions in the Brembo Unofficial Best Starters in the MotoGP ranking, surpassing Andrea Iannone and Pol Espargaro. Now Rossi ranks fourth with Lorenzo in the lead: the Spanish racer is 37 points ahead of Marc Marquez and 42 ahead of Bradley Smith. Meanwhile, Pedrosa has surpassed Aleix Espargaro and is now in eighth place.

The Brembo Unofficial Starters in the MotoGP ranking is an indicator created by Brembo which seeks to identify the most talented starter in the Moto GP. For a lightening quick start a reactive clutch and high performance brakes are crucial right from the very first curve, in addition, of course, to the ninja-like reflexes necessary for taking off right at the signal, and the cold blood needed to push the acceleration without exaggerating.

For years Brembo has been the main supplier of brake systems for the Moto GP: all of the motorcycles (Yamaha, Honda, Ducati, and Suzuki) that have won the past 21 world championships of the 500-Moto GP were equipped with Brembo brakes. This year 24 of the 25 drivers in the MotoGP are using Brembo brakes. Furthermore, Brembo produces most (22 out of 25) of the clutch pumps used in the Top Class.

The Brembo Unofficial Best Starters in the MotoGP ranking is based on a concept similar to that of the Holeshot in motocross: in the cross, the driver who is ahead of everyone by the first curve, right after start, earns the holeshot. Similarly, the Brembo Unofficial Best Starters in the MotoGP ranking is based on the positions occupied by the MotoGP riders at the first curve, immediately after start.
