Uncompromised braking performance

With their high performance and capability to be driven at extreme limits, sports cars have always represented the most prestigious and challenging test bed for a braking system.

Brembo has earned a position of unrivalled supremacy in the supply of original equipment for this segment, supplying products boasting cutting edge technology, reliability and design to Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin, and to Mercedes, Nissan, GM, Ford, Mitsubishi and others for their high performance versions.

Due to the high performance and spirit of extreme innovation typical to this segment, the braking systems for these cars introduce innovations in terms of both materials and technology derived directly from motorsports, which will only filter down into other segments some time later.

For these cars, Brembo produces braking systems consisting of 4 or 6 piston monoblock calipers, to offer maximum stiffness and braking power, working in conjunction with high performance discs.  The discs are either carbon-ceramic components, used for the most exclusive models, or floating, co-cast units with a cast iron braking rotor and an aluminium hat.

The superior axial stiffness of these discs contributes to reducing fluid absorption by the caliper and, as a result, pedal travel. The most significant qualities of Brembo calipers are lightness, stiffness - meaning that the caliper absorbs less fluid, for more immediate pedal response - and ideal ventilation. Today, however, the looks of a caliper are also important, and superior design is one of the aspects that make Brembo products stand apart from their rivals.

Some of the sports cars equipped with Brembo brakes:

Alfa Romeo 4C

Brake calipers

The brake system for the Alfa Romeo 4C is ready for the most intense use on race track thanks to the Brembo’s fixed aluminium front calipers that allow the car to brake from 100 to 0 km/h in just 36 metres.
Brembo’s fixed calipers are not only by characterized by lightness, performance and design of components in aluminium rather than cast iron but are also able to ensure advantages arising from reduced weight and residual torque, resulting in lower pollutant emissions and better fuel economy.

Chevrolet Camaro

Italian brakes do it better

The Chevrolet Camaro Coupe is 90 kg lighter than the previous models with better aerodynamics and brakes.
The Brembo four-piston, two-piece aluminium calipers are designed specifically for weight savings and are among the stiffest available with virtually no distortion from high thermal and torque loads, even under the most demanding conditions. Brembo’s corrosion-resistant calipers in anodized aluminium offer reduced weight over traditional calipers.
On the Camaro LT, the available Brembo brakes include 12.6-inch (321x30mm) front rotors with four-piston aluminium calipers. Camaro SS employs 13.6-inch (345x30 mm) front rotors with four-piston aluminium calipers and 13.3-inch (339x26 mm) rear rotors with four-piston calipers.

Corvette Stingray

Braking on the seventh day

The seventh generation Corvette stands out for its style and the materials used, above all the aluminium chassis. To ensure unthinkable stopping distances, even at higher speeds, the Stingray uses Brembo 4-piston calipers front and rear. And for those who want even more, there is the solution with front pillar calipers with 6 pistons and oversized pads. The Brembo discs range in size from 321 to 394 mm for the front and from 339 to 390 mm at the rear. Aspects ensuring maximum modular braking control.

Dodge Viper SRT

Benchmark Braking

Every corner of the 2015 Dodge Viper SRT® features a robust four-piston Brembo® brake system with fixed aluminium calipers and 14x1.3-inch vented/slotted rotors. Braking is firm and confident even under extreme track conditions. The calipers are among the stiffest available. All surfaces are machined for full weight optimization.

Ferrari 488 GTB

Brembo has perfected a braking system for the 488 GTB capable of offering superior performance, thanks to the use of mechatronics, as well as great good looks.  Given the high loads generated by piston pressure on pads, maximum rigidity and less deformation is ensured by pillar calipers (machined from a single block of aluminum) available in 9 different colours.
The rear caliper is characterized by the integrated electrical parking brake: this solution developed by Brembo combines traditional mechanical skills with newer electronic features in a caliper involving high-level mechatronics. Brembo has developed an electronic control unit and control software governing the parking brake which are integrated into a single component.
Brembo CCM discs complete the brake system alongside Brembo pads with friction material made from a blend of specifically dosed organic elements ensuring the best braking performance with Brembo CCM discs in composite ceramic material.

Ferrari California T

The braking system on the California is designed to combine sport and comfort perfectly and comprises Brembo front and rear modules with carbon ceramic discs. The 390 mm carbon-ceramic discs at the front are coupled to 6-piston calipers with a 143 cm2 pad, while the 360 mm carbon-ceramic discs on the rear are coupled to 4-piston calipers with a 77 cm2 pad.
The brake system is completed with Brembo CCM discs that ensure a weight reduction of 50% compared to cast iron discs. This achieves a significant reduction of the unsprung mass of the vehicle, ensuring excellent dynamic behaviour and impressive driving comfort.

Ford Mustang

Coming to grips with a thoroughbred

The latest version of the quintessential muscle car boasts unprecedented handling and road holding. To keep the Ford Mustang’s more than 300 HP under control, Brembo developed 6-piston aluminium pillar calipers combined with 380 mm slotted front discs. Ideal for those who want to achieve the most from their car, in everyday life as well as for a few days on the race track.

LaFerrari

Conceived for a car of excellence with a strong sporting vocation such as LaFerrari, the new Brembo brake system highlights innovative design, weight reductions and mechatronics.
Aggressive and innovative aesthetics for this new "extreme" caliper above all mean a significant reduction of unsprung weight (more than 3 kg) and better pedal response. This caliper body also ensures better ventilation, with a reduction in brake fluid temperature of more than 30 °C. Although the front caliper has six pitons and the rear one 4 integrated with the electric parking brake, actually the two calipers are visually identical. No difference is seen when looking at the car from the side. The brake system is completed with Brembo CCM discs that ensure a weight reduction of 50% compared to cast iron discs.

Pagani Huayra

High coefficient of friction under all conditions of use

The Pagani Huayra is fitted with Brembo Carbon-Ceramic brakes, already tested on the Nürburgring with the Zonda R and ideal even for the most critical situations.
The weight reduction achieved thanks to using Carbon-Ceramic brakes means that the Huayra turns in exceptional behaviour for racing as well as everyday driving. The composite ceramic material manufactured by Brembo ensures a high coefficient of friction in all conditions of use that remains constant during braking at all speeds, thereby allowing the driver to optimize the force applied to the pedal. This important feature is difficult to achieve with conventional cast iron.
The brake calipers are connected to a metal bell so that the unit can be mounted directly on the wheel hub. This innovative mounting system is patented system and also involves flexible deformation between the brake belt and the bell. It is the result of detailed studies allowing differential thermal expansion between the materials of the two brake system elements. In addition, the limited deformation of the CCM Carbon-Ceramic discs at high temperatures ensures perfect coupling between disc and pad. This important quality is not easy to obtain with cast iron discs, that tend to deform when subjected to prolonged, heavy duty thermal stress. In addition, the hardness of composite ceramic material ensures long disc life.
