BREMBO TEAMS WIN THREE CLASSES
AT 24 HOURS OF LE MANS
Make That Seven Overall Victories in Past Eight Years!

LE MANS, France, June 17, 2007 – Whether four-wheel or two, open-wheel, prototype or GT, since Brembo began racing with Ferrari in 1975, the Italian manufacturer of high-performance braking systems has won more world championships at more great venues like Le Mans, Daytona, Sebring and Monaco than any other competitor. 

With three victories in this past weekend’s 75th running of the classic French endurance race, Brembo-equipped teams put an exclamation point on Brembo racing history.

With over half of the field using its racing calipers and rotors, Brembo had high expectations for repeating as overall champions.  Seven of the top nine LMP1 prototypes were running Brembos, including the Audis that had won six overall crowns in the past seven years.  Strong competition was expected (and delivered) by the French contingent including the diesel Peugeots, Courage Competition and Pescarolo Sport. 

As is often the case at Le Mans, though, everyone’s main foe during the twice-around-the-clock race was the French weather.  Even champions like Audi were humbled by the “slip sliding away” caused by the occasional torrential down pour.  In the end, class and experience won out as the Audi “old guys”, the #1 car with Frank Biela, Emanuele Pirro and Marco Werner, repeated their record-setting victory of last year.  Biela and Pirro now join Derek Bell with five overall wins at Le Mans, while Werner has three.  Team Peugeot’s Sebastien Bourdais, three-time Champ Car champion born in Le Mans, along with team mates Pedro Lamy and Stephane Sarrazin, were the obvious crowd favorites as they earned a well-deserved second place for the new French diesel, also equipped with Brembos.
