BREMBO TEAMS PODIUM AT ROLEX 24
Teams Place 1st & 3rd in GT Class and Third Overall
DAYTONA BEACH, Fl., Jan. 28, 2007 – With the majority of the entrants (37 of 70) in the Rolex 24 at Daytona taking the green flag yesterday, Brembo had hoped for a measure of success in the 45th running of the classic race. As usual, the Rolex did not disappoint.
Even with hours of unwanted contact between the faster Daytona Prototypes and the largest field of slower GTs ever, throw in the typical deluge of thunderstorms during the night, and the ever-present questions of mechanical and electrical reliability, Brembo-shod racers were still able to drive away with first-and third-place in the GT class.
And it wasn’t the Brembo “power” teams of TRG (5 Porsches), Farnbacher Loles (4 Porsches) whose #85 entry led much of the race, or Tafel Racing (3 Porsches) that stood atop the podium. Instead, it was the Alegra Motorsports Porsche team of Carlos de Quesada, Jean-Francois Dumoulin, Scooter Gabel and Marc Basseng who are wearing new Rolex watches today. One of TRG’s stronger entries, the #65 Porsche of Jim Pace, Johannes van Overbeek, Ralf Kelleners and Jim Lowe, was able to gain a well-earned thirdplace podium for Brembo as well.
Wayne Taylor had hoped that his new Brembo brakes would carry his #10 SunTrust Racing Pontiac Riley to its second Rolex 24 Daytona Prototype victory (and Taylor’s third Rolex win overall). Unfortunately, for Taylor and his teammates, including four-time NASCAR Cup Champion Jeff Gordon, 2005 Grand-Am Rolex DP Co-Champion (with Taylor) and Le Mans Champion Jan Magnussen, they weren’t playing “horse shoes.” Close only counts there.
